Package B is geared towards SSST schools
  • whose SSST students require the tutorial services of an online mother tongue tutor
  • that provide the mandatory mother tongue tutors to their SSST students
  • that outsource the provision of mother tongue tutors to the SSST students' parents

According to the IB Language A guide every SSST student should have access to a mother tongue tutor who can guide the student through the study of his/her mother tongue literature and thereby help provide a worthwhile, enriching and meaningful educational challenge.

Package B supports the SSST coordinator with
  • the provision of mother tongue tutors in a large number of languages
  • connecting the mother tongue tutor, the school and the student(s)
  • tutorial services for the student(s) - see Tutor responsibilities below
  • the provision of a detailed schedule of tutorial hours
  • the provision of a Scope and Sequence overview for the course (northern/southern hemisphere)
  • term reports to the SSST coordinator (in mother tongue/English)

Tutor responsibilities

The mother tongue tutor will
  • provide an agreed-upon* number of hours of (Skype) tutoring and mentoring for two academic years.  These hours include the time spent on grading/marking practice papers and mock exam papers and on providing detailed feedback.  There is no additional payment for the time spent on preparation and research.
  • guide the student with their text choices and suggest an organic and negotiable course of studies
  • prepare materials for online tutorials
  • mark and provide feedback on practice essays, commentaries and orals
  • use IB assessment criteria when marking and giving qualitative feedback
  • provide guidance on linguistic competence and cultural content
  • follow the course structure as prescribed by the relevant IB school
  • communicate with the school on the student’s effort and performance
  • provide predicted grades to be communicated to universities and the IB
  • communicate any relevant issues (pastoral and academic) to the SSST coordinator in the school
  • schedule the online meeting times with the student as per the requirements of the course
  • share a record of the online tutorial times with the student and the school
  • inform the student and/or school at least 24 hours in advance if a scheduled meeting time can not be honored, upon which a new meeting time will be agreed
 * see the various options in the "Fees and Conditions" page (click here)

Student and school/parents responsibilities

The student must
  • meet at the agreed time with their tutor. If there is any cancellation (for legitimate reasons), then this cancellation must be made at least 48 hours in advance. If a student does not meet up for a scheduled lesson, the lesson will still be charged @ 15 minutes.
  • submit all homework and assignments on time. If there is any delay or if the student fails to meet any deadline set by the IB or by the school, then the student bears all the responsibility

The school/parents must
  • provide the books and/or materials that the student needs in order to support their literature study
  • make the agreed payments on time
  • inform the tutor in advance of any holidays, events or other commitments that prevent the student from attending an online tutorial

The student and the tutor will start their collaboration as soon as the payment has been received.  In the event of the student dropping out of our SSST support service, any payments that have been made are non-refundable.
