In Group 1 of the IB DP there are two types of languages :
AUTOMATICALLY AVAILABLE languages are automatically available as examination subjects. Schools that have students who are native or near-native speakers of these languages can register their students for the Language A assessments in the same way that they register for their five other subjects. There is a limited and published list of "automatically available" languages in the DP (see below). SPECIAL REQUEST languages are not automatically available as examination subjects. Schools that have students who are native or near-native speakers of languages that don't appear in the list of AVAILABLE languages must make a request to the IB for this language to be assessed. There is a special procedure in place, which we will be happy to explain and assist schools with. There is no published list of "special request" languages - schools make the request whenever a student needs this course for their DP. Below is a tentative list of languages that have, in past years, been assessed as SSST subjects. |
